The Monarch Story

Built around 1900 by Henry Preston King, the original H.P. King Co. Department Store served communities across northeastern Tennessee and southwestern Virginia. Known as one of the largest retail destinations of its time, the building stood as a symbol of growth and community in downtown Johnson City.

Over a century later, the space has been lovingly restored as Monarch on Main, a place where history and celebration intertwine. This is more than just a venue. It’s a story of rebirth in the heart of Johnson City

Monarch on Main exists to bring people together.

Whether for a wedding, a milestone celebration, or a creative community event. Our vision is to serve as a cornerstone of connection for the Tri-Cities. Where ideas, artistry, and togetherness take center stage. From intimate gatherings to grand occasions, Monarch on Main is where every vision can take flight.
